BUNN: “It’s A Step In The Right Direction”

11 July 2018

Oldham Athletic manager Frankie Bunn has praised his side following their first pre-season win.

Latics made the short trip to Hurst Cross to take on National League North side Ashton United yesterday.

Goals from Peter Clarke, a trialist and Jose Baxter gave Bunn’s team a 3-1 win.

On the match, the manager said: “It was difficult with the conditions.

“I thought the lads came out and did what they had to do. It was difficult to play on but we played the conditions. It’s our first game.

“This is just a fitness exercise, the first game, and we’re trying to implement our ideas.

“That’s what we’re going to work through for the whole pre-season. Change is sometimes difficult to implement, but I think we showed some good characteristics.”

Bunn will be looking to guide the club back to League One at the first time of asking in the upcoming campaign but he believes despite the win last night there is still more work to be done.

“We wont get carried away,” he said.

“It was our first step towards what we’re trying to achieve.

“It’s a step in the right direction.”

Next up Latics take on Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium on Saturday, July 14, 3pm kick off.
