Bunn Pleased With Curzon Ashton Performance

16 July 2018

Manager Frankie Bunn was pleased with Saturday’s 0-2 pre-season friendly victory over Curzon Ashton.

Dan Gardner’s free kick put Latics ahead in the second half whilst a goal from a Trialist in the last five minutes sealed the win for Latics.

Speaking directly after the game, Bunn said: “It’s another positive step for us. You could see the intensity that we’ve been working on.

“It’s not the finished article yet but there was intensity to go and win the ball back which we’ve been working hard on.

“The work in the final third will come. We haven’t broached that in training yet but today was more of a running exercise to get some minutes and distance into the legs.”

Conditions were a lot different from the game against Ashton United last Tuesday evening.

“We passed the ball well at times, especially in the defensive and middle third but it just broke down in the attacking third,” Bunn commented.

“That’s where you earn your money and it wins you games. The most difficult thing is to create something and the easiest thing to do is stop something but it will come.

“We are starting from the back and moving our way forward so it was another pleasing performance.

“The numbers weren’t great today. We’ve got a few injuries so we’re glad to come through the game.

“Missilou just took a little knock but he covered some ground today and put some tackles in himself.

“It was good for the lads to get 90 minutes and 70 minutes in.”
