Latics Record Third Pre-Season Victory Out Of Three

Oldham Athletic recorded their third pre-season victory out of three after they beat FC United of Manchester 0-2 at Broadhurst Park.

A Trialist put Athletic ahead on 27 minutes after Giles Coke’s shot smashed against the post he the trialist netted the rebound.

Latics could have extended their lead before the break but Dan Gardner’s penalty was excellently saved by the FC United of Manchester goalkeeper.

Athletic did net their second on the hour mark as Johan Branger-Engone latched on to a cross by Cameron Dummigan to round off the scoring and ensure Athletic picked up their third pre-season victory.

It was a slow start to the game but it was Latics who had the first effort on goal through a Trialist.

Branger-Engone delivered a cross into the box but Trialist’s header was saved by Lloyd Allinson.

Athletic did take the lead just before the half hour mark through Trialist. Coke smashed an effort goalwards from 25 yards, it rebounded off the post but Trialist was there to tuck home from close range to put Athletic ahead.

Minutes later, Gardner almost extended Athletic’s lead as he won a free kick on the edge of the box. He stepped up but smashed the ball against the post.

The midfielder has the perfect opportunity to extend Athletic’s lead from the penalty spot after Trialist was fouled in the penalty box but Gardner’s effort was saved excellently by Allinson.

Latics continued to press in the second half and were eventually rewarded with a second goal on the hour mark.

Cameron Dummigan crossed on to the head of Branger-Engone and the winger nodded in at the far post to make it 0-2.

Dummigan should have got himself on the scoresheet on 70 minutes but he headed off target following a cross from Branger-Engone.

Latics saw out the game comfortably and earned their second clean sheet in as many games.
