Hunt Believes Latics Are Progressing Well

18 July 2018

Rob Hunt believes Oldham Athletic are progressing nicely after a 0-2 victory over FC United of Manchester last night.

The defender was part of a defence which kept their second clean sheet of pre-season and he believes Athletic are quietly going about their business.

He said: “Obviously another win is another step in the right direction. The gaffer and his staff are getting the points across, and all the boys are taking to it. I thought we showed that tonight.

“The defenders, as well, came out with another clean sheet, so another step in the right direction.

“No pre-season is ever easy, but the way the gaffer wants us to play it’s going to be tough. I think we showed tonight what kind of fitness levels we’ve got at the moment and hopefully we can keep that up to start the season.”

There have been a number of new faces through the door this summer and Hunt believes the squad are gelling nicely.

“We’re a good group. Anyone who comes in, we’ve always welcomed him,” he commented.

“They’re fitting in nice as you could see tonight. We’re all gelling well together. Hopefully we can keep gelling and progress together.”

Nottingham Forest will be the next test for Hunt and Frankie Bunn’s side. “Nottingham Forrest are a great club with great players,” Hunt said.

“But we want to test ourselves against the best players we can before the season starts.

“Obviously if we can perform and do well against a team like them, then why can’t we do it against a team in our league. I’m looking forward to it.”
