Baxter: “It Was A No Brainer.”

5 June 2018

Jose Baxter revealed it was a ‘no brainer’ to agree a deal to return to Oldham Athletic on a one-year deal.

The attacker served the club between 2012-13, scoring 15 goals in a season which saw Latics reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.

After moves away from the club, Baxter will return on a one-year contract and admitted it was an easy decision to come back to Boundary Park.

He said: “The best football I played was with this club so it’s always going to have a place in my heart. Once I knew they were interested and I knew that I needed to come out and get some games then it was always the club to come to.

“I’m loving my football now more than ever. I’m more hungrier than ever and obviously I would love to get this club back to where it belongs and that isn’t League One.

“With the chairman and a young hungry manager, our aim is to get into the Championship and why not. We need to build, start and go for it.

Reflecting on his first time at the club, Baxter recalled: “We had a great cup run, beating Liverpool and getting a draw against Everton but we also had some good away trips in the lead up to that.

“Nottingham Forest was a great time and we had some great wins and my time here was brilliant so I want to have more times like that again.”

Baxter has spent the last season with Everton’s under 23s but is really looking forward to getting back in action.

“I just want to get my boots on and get back playing,” he commented. “Pre-season is just around the corner so I will start with the runs and the gym work now and come back in decent shape and then get going.”

Asked if he is looking forward to showing the fans what he can do again, he replied: “That was also a big thing. I had a little bit of a special bond when I was last here so once I knew the club were interested and I could come back and see the fans then it was a no brainer.”
