Manager Reacts To Fixtures Release

21 June 2018

Manager Frankie Bunn has given his reaction following the release of the Sky Bet League Two fixtures for the 2018/19 campaign.

Latics will face MK Dons at Boundary Park in the opening game of the season and Bunn said: “It’s a bit of excitement. Everyone gets a bit giddy when the fixtures are announced and rightly so.

“We will take it game by game. Every club is going to do their pre-season and then it’s just us concentrating on ourselves and making sure that we’re right and then we take it from there.

“It’s always nice to start at home but then we need that performance to get supporters coming back to this club.

“It’s a tough league, it’s not going to be easy and we are going to concentrate on ourselves and not look over our shoulders.

“If we get ourselves right then hopefully we will perform well.”

Bunn has made a couple of changes to pre-season since his arrival and he explained those decisions.

“We just felt that we wanted some bigger clubs to start the season,” he commented.

“We wanted a bigger test so we’ve got Nottingham Forest and Preston North End on Saturdays, both at home, so hopefully the supporters will get behind us, come and have a look and see what we’re trying to do.”

The players are back in pre-season training on Friday, June 29: “The first couple of days are testing,” Bunn said.

“We will see what stages they are at and then we will trailor training to what we see and we will push on from there.”
