MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Portsmouth

17 March 2018

Oldham Athletic will be looking to go six games unbeaten when they host Portsmouth.

It’s also the first game since the stadium name has returned to its roots as Boundary Park.

The good run of form has seen Richie Wellens’ side pick up 11 points from a possible 15.

Last week, Latics came from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Bury at Gigg lane.

The manager was please with the spirit his side showed: “If you would have offered me four points from them two away games at the start I probably would have taken it, especially under the circumstances of Bury in tough conditions.

“To respond and comeback to make sure they didn’t get an advantage on us was really pleasing.”

When Oldham took on Portsmouth in the reverse fixture, Athletic ran out 1-2 winners and Wellens would like a similar performance this week: “Last time it was a fantastic result at a difficult place to go.

“We played some really good football and if we get a similar performance it would be fantastic,” said Wellens.

“Portsmouth are a mid-table team but they’ve still got a chance of the play-offs, if we had them in 3 or 4 games time their form might have tailed off but we’re expecting a tough game against a good manager in Kenny Jackett and what for this level is a big club.”

Sky Bet have made Portsmouth slight favourites at 6/4 whilst a home win is 9/5 and odds on the two teams sharing the points is 9/4.
