South Failsworth Primary School will represent Oldham Athletic at Wembley Stadium in the final of the EFL Kids Cup on Sunday, May 27 before the Sky Bet League One play-off final.
The school take on another school who represent AFC Wimbledon before the clash between Shrewsbury Town and Rotherham United at the home of English football.
South Failsworth beat off competition from 31 other Oldham primary schools as well as triumphing at the EFL Kids Cup northern finals prior to reaching Wembley.
They beat local rivals Rochdale in the final to set up their fourth appearance at Wembley in the last 10 years.
Headteacher Mike Jones, who is retiring at the end of the school year, said: “I am very proud that our school football team is going to represent Oldham Athletic in the EFL League One national final at Wembley for the fourth time.
“As far as I am aware we are the only primary school in the country to have done this on so many occasions. It is a wonderful competition and the event provides young children with memories for life.
“What budding young footballer would not want the chance to play at Wembley? But I am also pleased that teams we have played and staff associated with Oldham Athletic have commented on the wonderful attitude of the children in the team as well as their footballing skills.”
Community Manager Martin Vose added: “It is a fantastic achievement for South Failsworth Primary School to reach Wembley for a fourth time. It is a wonderful opportunity for these young footballers to experience playing at Wembley Stadium in front of thousands of people.
“Our mission at OACT is to ‘create positive opportunities through sport’ and an event such demonstrates how we work towards achieving this goal.
“I would also like to personally thank Mike Jones, South Failsworth Primary School Headteacher, who is retiring after many wonderful years of service.
“Mike has always been a pleasure to work with, supporting the many project and competitions that we do.
“On behalf of everyone connected with OACT, good luck South Failsworth.”
