Placide’s Haiti Downed By World Cup Hopefuls

30 May 2018

Oldham Athletic goalkeeper Johny Placide played 90 minutes for Haiti and captained his national side against Argentina in a friendly match ahead of the Fifa World Cup next month.

The South American side who are amongst the favourites for the tournament in Russia ran out 4-0 winner on the night.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick as well as setting up Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero for the fourth goal.

Despite saving a penalty for Latics in the league against Rochdale last season, Placide was unable to keep out the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s spot kick shortly after 17 minutes.

The match took place at a packed Boca Junior’s La Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires.
