MATCH PREVIEW: Mansfield Town vs. Oldham Athletic

2 October 2018

Oldham Athletic will be looking to continue their strong away form as they take on Mansfield Town in the Sky Bet League Two fixture tonight (Kick Off 7:45pm).

Latics picked up a point at Swindon Town on Saturday after a 0-0 draw which took Frankie Bunns’ men back up to sixth in the table.

Oldham will face a tough trip to the One Call Stadium as Mansfield have only lost one game at home so far this campaign.

Despite the quick turnaround from Saturday, Bunn believes his side will be prepared for the contest tonight and that his players have shown that they can adapt to different ideas.

“When you play Saturday, Tuesday everything’s condensed to a couple of days, we had a look at them Sunday and this morning, so we're trying to highlight their strengths and weaknesses.” He said.

“There are things we can work on, but the players adapt well to whatever we suggest to them and try what we try to put across.

“I think we are getting better as a group in everything we do which I think is starting to flourish, the squad is strong, and we’ve got good players in depth.”

Latics will most likely have the same squad that travelled to Swindon, with top scorer Sam Surridge (hip) still a doubt.

The hosts for this evening will be coming into the game off the back of an impressive 4-0 win over Northampton Town on Saturday.

The Stags have threats in their strike force in the shape of top scorer Tyler Walker, who has six goals so far this season and Danny Rose who bagged a brace on against Northampton.

Mansfield currently sit two points behind Oldham in the table, with the race for a top seven spot already becoming a tight affair this early into the season.

They will be without the injury quartet of Alex MacDonald, Hayden White, David Mirfin and former Latics player Zander Diamond.

Another former face in Jacob Mellis is back in contention for the home side after serving a suspension.

Latics last visit to the One Call Stadium saw the team on the end of a 2-0 defeat back in January 2017.

Our last away victory against Mansfield came in an FA Cup Second Round Replay in December 2013.

Oldham were 1-4 winners after being 1-0 down at half time, goals from Danny Philliskirk, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Matteo Lanzoni and Adam Rooney set up a Third-Round clash with Liverpool.

Oldham Athletic are priced at 3/1 to beat Mansfield Town tomorrow night.
