MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Carlisle United

5 October 2018

Oldham Athletic will be looking to turn their two recent away draws into three points as Carlisle United visit Boundary Park in the Sky Bet League Two fixture tomorrow afternoon (Kick Off 3pm).

Latics come into the clash on the back of two successive 0-0 draws and on a run of four games unbeaten.

Manager Frankie Bunn knows full well that his side need to perform better than they did on Tuesday night to claim the three points against Carlisle.

“We’re disappointed with the performance on Tuesday because it wasn’t great, especially with the ball, it's probably the worst performance I’ve seen since I’ve been here.” He said.

“Defensively we were good with a bit of a luck and a good goalkeeping display, so we’ve come away with a point in the end which we were grateful for, but it needs to be better.”

Latics have no new fresh injury concerns with Bunn hoping top scorer Sam Surridge, will be fit enough to feature after missing the past two games with a hip problem.

Aston Villa loanee Jordan Lyden has also stepped up his recovery from a thigh injury, but he is expected to get his first involvement in the Checkatrade Trophy match next Tuesday.

Ousmane Fane is the only other long-term injury for Oldham.

The visitors come into this game after back-to-back home defeats to Stevenage and Grimsby Town.

However, they have won their past two away fixtures meaning this will not be an easy ride for Latics.

The Cumbrians currently sit 13th place in the table, but they are just a point behind Oldham heading into this game.

Richie Bennett and Jamie Devitt are Carlisle’s main injury concerns ahead of Saturday with Bennett, a former Oldham Athletic youth player, top scorer for The Cumbrians so far this season.

Danny Grainger is also out with an injury, but Jerry Yates returns from suspension.

The last time the teams met was last season in the FA Cup First Round where Latics lost 3-2.

The teams haven’t met in the league since the 2013/14 season where Latics won both the home and away fixture 1-0.

Oldham Athletic are priced at 21/20 to beat Carlisle United tomorrow.

Mike Leyland and Roy Butterworth will be talking you through the match and there will also be on-screen graphics.
