Oldham Athletic would like to welcome students from Hey With Zion Primary School visit Boundary Park who as this afternoon's N Brown Group's Team Of The Week.
Hey With Zion, a proud school partner of OACT, visit Boundary Park this afternoon through their involvement with OACT’s schools programme which sees Oldham Athletic coaches deliver regular PE sessions within the school on a weekly basis. Oldham Athletic Community Trust work with a number of primary schools on a regular basis, ensuring that the football club is represented across the borough through the community work.
As a special surprise, ahead of the visit to Boundary Park, Oldham Athletic duo Jonathan Benteke & Jordan Lyden spent the afternoon with the school children this week. The pair took the time to visit the school and answered questions that the children had about being a professional football..
Hey with Zion
Hey with Zion is a joint foundation C. of E./ Methodist Primary School in Lees.
For a number of years the school has boasted Maths and English SATs outcomes which rank among the best across the borough a fair way ahead of the national average. A school with a smaller than average class size (for example the year five classes currently have 16 & 19 pupils) contributes to this.
In addition to the schools academic work, Hey With Zion also has a thriving extra-curricular programme which includes football, american flag rugby, dodgeball, hockey & cross country. The school regularly compete in competitions, their football teams have played at Anfield (representing Oldham Athletic), Manchester City Football Academy & Manchester United’s “The Cliff” training facility. However, by far the most prestigious event to date is to play on the pitch today at Boundary Park.
Andy Clowes, Hey With Zion headteacher commented: “We are a happy school who do the best that we can. We try to have fun whilst we do it and look after each other on the way. Please give our children a cheer at half time.”
School Kit Giveaway
OACT school partners Thorp, St Pauls, Mills Hill & Hey With Zion recently received a brand new school kit courtesy of a partnership between OACT & Ultimate Products.
The free kits, which were funded by Ultimate Products, were made available to the schools through the OACT schools programme which sees OACT delivery high quality physical activity sessions across the borough.
Craig Holden, Group HR & Operations Director commented:“Ultimate Products are very committed to supporting the local Oldham community whether it be via providing jobs or opportunities for young people. We are proud to be working with Oldham Athletic to provide equipment and other opportunities to schools within the Oldham area and will continue to do so next year and going forward. The kits look fantastic and I can’t wait to see the children wearing them in football matches over the next season”
