Youth Team Pick Up Their Third Win On The Bounce

23 October 2018

Oldham Athletic’s Youth Team picked up another win at the weekend.

The Young Latics ran out 3-0 winners over Lincoln City U18s at Chapel Road.

Interim Academy Manager, Peter Wild was delighted with the display from his side.

“It was another really good performance from the lads,” he said.

“It was an even game to start off with then Harry Robinson managed to get himself clear and get a goal and from that point we looked comfortable.

“We had a penalty before half-time which put us 2-0 up, so we ended the half really strong.

“In the second half our levels dropped a little bit, so it was a good chance to give some lads some game time and freshen things up and we managed to get a third goal through Sam Amankwaa.

“It was a comfortable win, but at the same time we had to work hard for it.”

The result makes it three wins in a row for the Latics’ Youth Team and Wild believes the competition in the squad is helping to keep the team on their toes.

“Apart from one lad, we’ve got everybody fit,” he commented

“Ewan [McFarlane] is with the first team and we have 16-year-old Jack Williams with us.

“There’s a lot of competition for places which is helping us, so when someone gets a chance they’ve got to keep their place and we have lads desperate for that opportunity, so it bodes well for us as a squad.

“The lads are working hard, it’s amazing what a couple of wins does to breathe confidence into young players.

“We’re not getting carried away we’ve got to maintain our standards we’ve got a couple of busy weeks coming up and the lads have got to keep focused and keep going.”
