Bunn: “We Want To Succeed In Every Competition”

3 September 2018

Manager Frankie Bunn says that his Oldham Athletic side will not take the upcoming Checkatrade Trophy game with Barnsley lightly.

Latics take on the League one outfit tomorrow night and although Bunn admits some changes will be made, his team still want to progress in the competition.

“It's a competition we want to do well in, we've got a bit of momentum in the league now and we want that to continue.” He said.

“It's a team selection we'll ponder, we've been in Sunday and Monday with the lads from Saturday doing a cool down and obviously a group who were training.

“We'll see how we recover and see who's available and select a team who will hopefully do well on Tuesday night.”

Bunn believes that if changes are to be made it will not affect the comradery of the squad.

“The togetherness in the squad is fantastic at the minute and it may be time for some people to be given a chance.” He commented.

There have been changes in South Yorkshire with Barnsley bringing in the German duo of Daniel Stendel and Andreas Winkler, but Bunn knows what to expect.

“They've obviously got German coaches and managers and I've worked a lot with David Wagner at Huddersfield and I'm hearing they work in a similar fashion to him.

“I think they'll be a footballing team who will try and play out from the back a lot, however I haven't seen them, so we'll have to do our research and have a look them, but we'll be ready for the game.”

Latics have had a decent month in August and Bunn hopes his players can continue to perform throughout the rest of the season and continue to gel with one another.

“Like I’ve said before I can't commend the players enough for the first month of the season.

“The players that have come in and the way they've gelled, the way they’ve worked and fought together and even the way they’ve socialised at the club is really great to see.”

Latics take on Barnsley tomorrow night in the Checkatrade Trophy (Kick off 7:30pm).
