MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Colchester United

21 September 2018

Oldham Athletic will look to make it two wins as the bounce as they take on Colchester United in the Sky Bet League Two at Boundary Park tomorrow afternoon (3pm).

Latics can leapfrog their Essex opponents as a point separates the teams ahead of the day’s play.

Colchester are currently the highest scorers in the league, but Frankie Bunn’s side will be going into the game full of confidence after last weekend’s 0-3 win at Grimsby Town.

However, Oldham’s home form has been a mixed bag with two wins and two defeats and Bunn believes that his side need more quality at Boundary Park.

“I think we need a bit more quality in the final third in our home games, but the difference has only been a goal, so perhaps and just being a bit brighter in and around the oppositions penalty box.” He said.

“We've taken our chances away from home when they've arisen, we ride out storms and we’ve just got to figure a way of breaking teams down at home when they sit off us.”

Latics will most likely have the same matchday squad that travelled to Grimsby with the quartet of Cameron Dummigan, Ousmane Fane, Giles Coke and Jordan Lyden still expected to be out.

The visitors are also coming into the game off the back of a 3-0 victory, beating Cambridge United at the Jobserve Community Stadium.

Striker Luke Norris is the U’s top scorer so far with four goals and they also have the threat of academy product Sammie Szmodics who will be the key men for the visitors.

Latics last faced Colchester back in January 2016 where the teams played out a 1-1 draw.

Rhys Murphy opened the scoring for Oldham before Chris Porter levelled with just over ten minutes to go for the Essex side.

Oldham are priced at 13/8 to claim the three points against Colchester.

Mike Leyland and Roy Butterworth will be on commentary on iFollow Latics for supporters who cannot make the game.
