Banide Wants A Reaction From His Side

6 August 2019

Latics are set to host Liverpool U21s in the first game of Leasing.com Trophy tomorrow and Head Coach Laurent Banide gave his thoughts ahead of the match.

After a disappointing result against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, Banide claims he has seen a reaction from his squad in training.

“We have seen a reaction and we are training well with players who need to play more, we have a training technique and preparation for them, everybody must work hard." He said.

“This afternoon we'll have a meeting because we need to have a discussion with the players and make sure they work more.”

The Head Coach already has an idea of what starting eleven he wants to play against Liverpool U21s.

“We’re waiting today to have a meeting and we’ll see what’s happening for the game." He commented.

"We have an idea of the team we want to start but we need to have confirmation about certain players as some players may be injured and we need to know if they will be available for the game.”

Banide praised our opponent and believes they possess a great academy so his players must prepare well ahead of the match.

“They’re a big team and it has a great academy, it’s a fantastic club. We know the potential of the academy at Liverpool so we must prepare and work well.

“Every time we must push a level and try to find a solution against our opponent.”

New signing Ashley Smith-Brown has caught the eye of the Head Coach and Banide says the defender is happy to be at Latics.

“He’s been training well and I have a good feeling with him. He’s a good guy and he’s happy to be here. We need to help him to strengthen the team and feel good.

“It’s our job and for the moment it’s important to work well with everybody and try to prepare for the game with serenity and concentration.”
