Latics beat Liverpool U21’s 3-2 in the Leasing.com Trophy last night at Boundary Park and Head Coach Laurent Banide give his thoughts after the game.
Banide was impressed with the performance from his side last night but still believes there is room for improvement.
“It was an interesting game, it was important we played well against a very good young team with talent. They’re a big club and it’s very important for us that we won.
“We need to work more because we need to improve and play better with tactics, technique and concentration.
“We conceded two goals, one in three minutes and the other in the 44th minute and it’s a question of concentration and it’s vital to start the game normally.”
The Head Coach claims it was a vital win to boost confidence in the squad and he is delighted with the spirit shown.
“We showed great spirit and we arrived in the last minutes to win the game and it’s important and good for team morale with them working every day.
“The players worked hard and it’s important they did so we can rest better and create a good feeling around the dressing room.”
There were several changes in the starting eleven last night and it gave some players a chance to impress Banide.
“It was interesting, we must continue and maybe we change one or two players but it's important we continue with the players and make sure that they’re all ready and we want to progress with the evolution and work towards our project.”
Desire Segbe Azankpo suffered an injury late into the first half and was taken off at half time and Banide gave an update on his injury.
“We will see tomorrow he needs to have an exam about his ankle. It’s bad news but we will have to see and talk to the doctor for more information.”
