Latics host Crewe Alexandra in the first home league game of the season tomorrow and Head Coach Laurent Banide gave his thoughts ahead of the match.
Banide is aware of the difficult test ahead but remains focused on his own squad.
“Crewe are a good team, they played well on Saturday from what we’ve seen." He said.
"Unfortunately, they lost that game but they played very well, they’re a very good opponent and we respect them but we must focus on ourselves to reach our potential.
“We need to concentrate on correcting our mistakes from the last game and we try to do better.”
The mid-week win over Liverpool U21’s has given the Head Coach plenty to ponder about his starting XI tomorrow.
Several changes were made on Wednesday night and with some good performances the Head Coach may be tempted to keep a similar line up.
“We have choices and it’s important because we have a lot of games so we’ll need options to change." He commented.
“We need to play will fresh players every game and we need a balance on how much players play.”
Banide is determined to put things right after the opening day defeat to Forest Green Rovers at the New Lawn.
“It’s important to bounce back from Forest Green because it’s the first home game of the season and people want to see a good game.
“We want to play a good game and we’re planning to control the ball more than we saw last game.
"We need to work better to improve and the supporters must support the team every game to reach our project.”
Desire Segbe Azankpo scored the first goal of the game in mid-week but suffered an injury late into the opening half and was taken off at half-time.
The Head Coach is still waiting to hear from the medical department to see if Azankpo will be able to feature.
“We are waiting at the moment. He needs to go to the doctor and we will wait for an answer on whether he can play or not.
"We make a decision when we know more about the situation.”
