Cadamarteri Pleased With Youth Team Performance

11 August 2019

The Youth Team picked up their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw against Carlisle United and Youth Team manager Danny Cadamarteri give his thoughts on the game.

Pleased with the performance shown against Carlisle United, Cadamarteri aims to continue developing the players throughout the EFL Youth Alliance campaign.

“I think the boys did alright. We have put a lot of emphasis on work rate, desire, commitment and determination first and foremost and then playing from there.

“There are some talented young players in the group but there is an aspect of their development that they need to improve on as well.”

He believes the work that they put in during the week is paying off but claims his side still have a lot to improve on to make progression.

“They’re in development now and we’re trying to develop players that are going to play in our first team.

“The work we’re doing throughout the course of the week is vital for their development but is also really rewarding regardless of a result to actually see the outcomes you’re working on come out.

“I’m really pleased with some of the aspects of play, but there's still loads to work on and improve on.”

And there are plans to make the lads improve week-by-week to push them to their full potential.

“I said to the boys already every week we’ve got to improve on performances.

“We’re not looking at the results aspect we’re looking at how they develop and how they perform."

He added: "Every week that we that we have a game, we try and improve and we try and look at the areas that we’ve not done so well and look to improve on them.”

Only just recently joining Latics, he is excited by his new role at the club.

“It’s been good, I think regards with the job in hand it’s a lot different from what I had in my last roles.

“We’re now trying to develop players for the first-team here. It’s a really exciting opportunity to work with the youth team players that are not too far away from being in and around the first-team squad.

“But we’ve got to make sure that they’re ready to make that step up and be ready to be able to perform in our first-team.”
