New Autism Friendly Initiative To Be Introduced Into The Matchday Programmes

16 August 2019

Last season Oldham Athletic Community Trust (OACT), in partnership with Oldham Athletic Football Club, launched the pioneering OACT Matchday Sensory Packs for supporters on the autistic spectrum to use. The packs received international recognition, with so far 15 sensory packs being utilised by supporters and members of the local community.

Following on from the launch of the matchday sensory packs OACT are delighted to announce that a communication symbol page will be now a constant feature within an Oldham Athletic matchday programme. The communication symbols will assist individuals who may have difficulties communicating verbally, going along way to ensure that an Oldham Athletic matchday experience is as inclusive as possible.

Martin Vose, OACT Head Of Community commented: “I would like to say a huge thank you to Barbara Rossington and Oldham Royal Hospital for their support and partnership work for this initiative.

"Following on from the launch of the sensory packs the challenge for this season was to evolve the idea and I believe we have achieved this.

"These packs will hopefully make a huge difference for families, or supporters, who may usually have difficulties communicating making a matchday experience as inclusive and enjoyable as possible”

The communication symbol page will launch for the visit of Exeter City on Tuesday 20th August 2019.
