Latics picked up their first point of the league campaign against Exeter City in a 0-0 draw at Boundary Park and Head Coach Laurent Banide gave his thoughts on the game.
The Head Coach believed his side should have scored despite holding off pressure from the visitors, especially towards the end of the contest.
“It was important to get the point and it was great for the spirit for the team and solidity of the work because everybody worked a lot and we have one point and it’s important for the future.
“We saw the team work well and we tried to play good football. We should have scored one or two goals because we had one or two very important opportunities but it’s important to get a good point for the team.
“I’m happy for the players but we need to continue.”
Latics were without midfielders Mohammed Maouche and Christopher Missilou due to injury and Banide claims their replacements did well.
“It was interesting, we played without Missilou and Maouche but the rest of the players did the job and it was okay.
“We need to continue, we have good solidity and David (Wheater) gave the team more security and gave confidence, he’s an important player.”
Banide hopes that this result can kick start his side into a good run of form now.
“We need to continue, each game is very important and each team is strong but we changed something in the game against Exeter City."
He added: “We need to work and push the team and get better results. That’s what we hope and we will try to do our best every time.”
Defender David Wheater was handed the captain's armband in Maouche's absence and once again left a good impression on the Head Coach.
“He’s fantastic and is very important for the rest of the players because he gives confidence. He was a little bit tired at the end but performed very good.”
