Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce a new partnership with Maggie’s Oldham, who are a cancer support centre based at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
Maggie’s Centres provide practical and emotional support to people with cancer and their family and friends, with their mission being to make the biggest difference possible.
The new partnership will see the charity use the football club to promote their groundbreaking centre that opened in June 2017 and has already received over 15,000 visits.
A warm and welcoming place, Maggie’s feels more like a home than a hospital, with a team of qualified professionals on hand to offer a core programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.
The club will also organise visits with Academy and First Team players to spend time with those using the centre.
Maggie’s is entirely funded by the generosity of supporters and voluntary donations, with Latics looking to help the centre regularly in a number of different ways to help them achieve their goals.
On the partnership, Laura Tomlinson, Centre Fundraising Manager (pictured, far right) said; "We’re absolutely delighted to be part of Oldham Athletic's ‘One Club, One Town’ venture.
"This is such a huge opportunity for us to spread the word about Maggie’s to the local community and will help us to ensure that people with cancer, and their friends and family, know all about Maggie’s meaning that they can get the support they need, at a time they need it the most. On behalf of us all here at Maggie’s – thank you!”
Whilst Oldham Athletic’s Managing Director Natalie Atkinson (pictured, far left) was pleased to get the club involved with Maggie’s; "As part of our new ‘One Club, One Town’ strategy we are creating we want to be even more involved in the local area and Maggie’s is the perfect fit to start it off.
"Their centre is beautiful and Maggie’s Oldham are a fantastic organisation who are doing great work and we felt it was only right for us to link in with them."
