MATCH REPORT: Latics Beaten By Swindon Town At The County Ground

Kaiyne Woolery’s powerful strike just before the interval and Eoin Doyle’s late goal was enough for Swindon Town to take all three points at the County Ground.

Latics started brightly as they kept the ball in the host’s half, and Dave Jones had a deflected shot from the edge of the area go just wide of goal before Desire Segbe Azankpo had a from a tight angle saved by Steven Benda.

Dino Maamria’s side continued their pressure as Tom Hamer lofted a ball into the Swindon box and left-back Alex Iacovitti laid the ball to Mohammed Maouche, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.

The Robins grew into the game and their first chance of the game arrived in the 31st minute as Eoin Doyle flicked a long ball onto Woolery inside the penalty area, but the forward couldn’t keep composed as his strike goes over the bar.

Just before half time, Richie Wellens’ side took the lead as Woolery drove inside from the right and blasted it low into the far corner past De La Paz.

The visitors thought they had found an equaliser as a dangerous low cross from the right found Iacovitti at the back post, but somehow, he failed to hit the target however the offside flag as raised.

The Robins nearly doubled their lead moments later following a free kick from out wide landed at the feet of Keshi Anderson and he strikes at goal only for Latics captain David Wheater to clear it off the line.

Swindon did have the ball in the net in the 81st as Doyle produced a clever finish past De La Paz, but the linesman already had his flag up.

Although, just minutes later Swindon secured the win as Doyle received the ball deep in the Latics half before he drove towards goal and he curled his effort into the bottom corner to score and meaning this was his ninth goal in nine consecutive games for the Irishman.

This win for Swindon Town is the first time that the Robins have beaten Latics at the County Ground since 2010.
