Pitch Update From The Head Groundsman

10 July 2019

Over the summer the ground staff have been working extremely hard on both the main Boundary Park pitch and the training pitches.

Head Groundsman Paul Flynn provided an update with how the work is going so far.

“This summer has been the best and most interesting for me personally since I’ve been working at this club because it is my first as Head Groundsman.

“After the two weeks of pitch hire games had finished, the work started straight away.

“We kept the majority of renovation work in house, carrying out 90% of the work ourselves using machinery either we have or with help other groundsman/greenkeepers.

“We’ve heavily scarified the Boundary Park pitch, trying to remove as much annual meadow grass and organic matter build up as we could.

“We have then spread 80 tonnes of Messingham 45 sand before disc seeding the pitch in four directions.

“It’s been a tough and busy summer for all of the ground staff who have worked extremely hard on all the surfaces.

“We’ve been supported by the club fantastically throughout and any requests I’ve had have been granted which bodes well going forward.

“The club and I are well aware of the problems this pitch faces, the main one being the shade issue from the Main Stand.

“The club and I are currently exploring different avenues that can help minimise the effect that the shade has on that area of the pitch.

“The work we have carried out and are carrying out isn’t a quick fix, but this will hopefully be a long-term project that will benefit the pitch in the future.

“I liked to personally thank Pleasant View Grounds Maintenance, Cheshire Turf Maintenance, Aitkens Sports Turf and Terralift for their support and help over the summer and for the season ahead.

“I’m looking forward to their continued support and working closely with one another across the 2019/20 campaign.

“As stated, this isn’t something that will happen overnight, but hopefully with a bit of patience we will see the improvements over the next few seasons.

“Thank you all for your continued support, wishing the lads the best for this season,

Paul Flynn”
