MATCH REPORT: Latics Suffer Pre-Season Defeat To Stockport County

27 July 2019

Oldham Athletic suffer a defeat at the hands of National League side Stockport County on a wet pre-season friendly encounter.

Latics created an early chance when Desire Segbe Azankpo ran at the Stockport defence but his shot deflected wide.

It only took The Hatters four minutes to take the lead at Boundary Park as County captain Ash Palmer headed past Gary Woods from a corner.

The visitors nearly doubled their lead just before half time when Frank Mulhurn raced clean through on the Latics goal, but Woods denied the forward.

Jim Gannon’s side then managed to extend their lead in the 44th minute. Conor Dimaio had his strike saved by Woods, but the ball fell to Sam Walker who placed his shot into the bottom corner of the Latics goal.

After the restart, Stockport midfielder Elliot Osborne tried his luck from outside the box but struck wide of Wood’s goal.

Lovely footwork from Urko Vera saw him pass the ball to Gevaro Nepomuceno and his cross nearly end up in the back of the County net.

Branger-Engone had an ambitious long-range strike, but it went into Hinchcliffe’s hands. Moments later, Mohamed Maouche struck from outside the box, but it was wide.

Stockport County two first half goals were enough to seal the win as Latics failed to create any clear-cut chances throughout the game.

Attendance 1,227 (Away 404).
