MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Accrington Stanley

8 October 2019

Oldham Athletic are back in action tonight as they take on Accrington Stanley at Boundary Park in the Leasing.com Trophy (7:45pm).

At the weekend, Latics picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town at home. Filipe Morais gave Latics the lead, but a late goal from Ryan Broom snatched a point for the visitors.

Latics currently top Group B in the Leasing.com Trophy after defeating Liverpool U21s 3-2 at Boundary Park.

Head Coach Dino Maamria is determined to progress further in the Leasing.com Trophy and claims he’s putting out a strong starting XI.

"I see it firstly as a good chance for us to progress to the next round, we need that, and we need to win because winning is good for any environment.

“All I've got to do is prepare our team, I'm picking a strong eleven as strong as it can be as I've got to be mindful of Saturday as well and we have a few sore bodies after the game at the weekend so I've got to be mindful of that, but our intention tomorrow is to win the game without a shadow doubt."

Urko Vera, Gary Woods, Zak Mills and Johan Branger-Engone are all unavailable for selection due to injury, but the rest of the squad are fit.

Maamria did hint that a couple of players are carrying knocks so they may not be risked tonight.

Last weekend, Accrington Stanley drew 2-2 at Wham Stadium against Oxford United which sees John Coleman’s side drop down to 18th in Sky Bet League Two.

In this competition, Stanley beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 to leave them on three points in the group.

The last time Oldham played Stanley was on 6th November 2010 away in the FA Cup, where Latics were beaten 3-2.

Oldham Athletic are priced at 7/4 to beat Accrington Stanley.
