VACANCY: Head of Fitness & Sports Science Coach

Oldham Athletic are looking to appoint a new full-time Head of Fitness & Sports Science Coach.

Working with the First Team and reporting directly to the Head Coach, the role will be focused on facilitating the strength and conditioning training of the players.

Assisting with the development of exercise routines and nutritional intake, exercise supervision, tracking athlete progress and adjusting exercise plans accordingly, the role includes designing and implementing full-scale fitness programs.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • To lead the day-to-day running of the sports science/strength and conditioning department.

  • To assist with the day-to-day running and administration of medical department monitoring.

  • To provide player readiness to train and individual player load management data.

  • To assist with medical staff to monitor recovery processes and return to play criteria.

  • To assist in the design, delivery and continued review of first team’s injury prevention protocols.

  • To organise and be responsible for performance testing on an individual and team basis.

  • To maintain a database of gym-based performance training completed with first team players.

  • To assist in producing athlete profiling and assessment protocols during screening and medical signings.

  • To assist the medical department with gym-based pre-training injury prevention sessions.

Knowledge/Experience/Technical Skills

Essential Desirable

Undergraduate degree in Sports Science, or related area.

Car and full driving licence.

Valid and accepted enhanced FA DBS CRC (Criminal Background Check) or be willing to undertake this check if successful.

A Strength and Conditioning recognised qualification (preferably UKSCA).

An extensive knowledge of sports science/strength and conditioning interventions.

Valid FA Safeguarding Workshop Certificate.

Experience using different performance monitoring systems.

UEFA Football Coaching Qualification or relevant football experience.

Experience of planning and implementing individual player and team performance testing assessments.

Postgraduate degree in Sports Science, or related area.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
