Latics make the long trip to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday and Head Coach Laurent Banide gave his thoughts ahead of the game.
The Head Coach was frustrated not to have picked anything up against Colchester United, but believes his side are improving.
“We were frustrated after the game against Colchester United. We played better and we need to push a level and continue.
“The team worked well and step-by-step we will start improving. We had better statistics with the ball, with passing, with crossing and with shooting and step-by-step we saw the team improve and enter a new phase.”
Filipe Morais and Jonny Smith signed for the club on Deadline Day and Banide has been impressed by the duo in training.
“We have two new players, one young and one with experience, it’s important because we have a good group now and they’re ready.
“We can work with everybody and we have a lot of possibilities and we need to find players who have a good connection. It’s important for the players to work well and continue and then we will aim to play better.” He commented.
“He’s an experienced player [Morais] and he is a very good technical player, he also knows the league very well. He has adapted to the squad very fast and today he trained well.
“Jonny [Smith] is fresh and young and he needs to play some games, it’s important to give confidence to all the new players and to the rest of the players because we improve with confidence.
“We need a result but step-by-step we move forward.”
The players have been working hard on the training ground all week ahead of the game against Plymouth Argyle.
“It’s important to work tactically and to work individually and we work with all the players twice a day, Monday and Tuesday because we can find confidence with the work so we give all the possibility for the players to improve and understand what we want and have good confidence in their position.
“We worked with the strikers a lot, so we hope on Saturday they have a chance to score goals. It’s our work and everybody works well so we must be patient.”
Ashley Smith-Brown is unavailable for the game due to his parent club being Plymouth but Banide claims players should be ready to replace him.
“We have a lot of players with a lot of potential, that’s why it’s important to have a lot of players in the same position, they can push each other to become better.
“It’s important that everyone is ready to play.”
On the player front, Chris Eagles is currently struggling with an injury and could be in doubt for the game, but the Head Coach wants to make the right decision to whether he will be available.
“Everybody is okay but we’re waiting on Chris Eagles because he felt something, but we must make a decision this afternoon.
“He has played well in each of his games and he is an important player, so we need to see if he can play or not but we must make the right decision for himself and the team.”
Whilst the hosts at the weekend have had a strong start to the season, with the Head Coach wanting his side to focus on themselves again ahead of the match.
“We know the potential of their team and they’re a good team, but we need to show something and we need to continue and play our game and create chances, we work for that every day and I hope that we can play better.”
The 51-year-old wants to bring the three points back up north but wants to play in the right manner too.
“The result every game is very important, but how you play is very important for me when I win and don’t touch the ball, I am happy but inside I’m not happy.
“It’s important to see your team play a certain way and you must show something and that is important for me because normally if we keep that then the results will follow.” He said.
“After a six hour journey you have to win to make it better.”
