Banide Looking For More Concentration

13 September 2019

Latics host Grimsby Town on Saturday and Head Coach Laurent Banide gave his thoughts ahead of the match.

The Head Coach took plenty of positives from the game against Barrow A.F.C. in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup during midweek.

"It was a game that was interesting for the players that haven't been playing too much. I think that we should be winning them sort of matches and score more goals because we missed a lot of chances.

"Also, we made a few mistakes defensively so it's a bad result and I want to see more from the players we must work hard game after game because we can see the potential of the players, but training is a lot different to a match situation."

He added: "It's important that we win on Saturday."

"It was good to see the new players in action against Barrow and it was a great opportunity for the younger players. The game helped build a better connection between the players."

Banide has been pleased with the performances of his side in recent weeks but wants his players to become more clinical in front of goal.

"We put on a good performance against Plymouth Argyle last weekend, I think that we have improved, and we need to continue with the same philosophy, and we need to push the team to the next level.

“We created a lot of chances in the game, but we need to score more goals because the last two games we missed too many opportunities to score and we need more concentration in front of goal.

“I think we did enough to beat Colchester United and Plymouth, but we need to concentrate more."

The 51-year-old admits that Grimsby will be a tough test but remains focused on his own side.

"To be honest I just want to focus on my own team. I've seen Grimsby play in the last two games and they're a good team and play nice football.

“They'll be a difficult opponent, but we have confidence that we can beat them, and we have been working hard. Hopefully, we put on a good performance."

He also has been impressed by the quality shown in recent performances and believes that the players will continue to progress.

"I think that in the previous games we have shown more quality, but we are still a long way off where I want them to be.

“Step-by-step we will see progression because if you compare the squad from a month ago to now it's different and the players are still improving."
