Mills: “It Was An All-Round Good Day”

22 September 2019

Defender Zak Mills was pleased to be back in the team and help his side to a 3-1 victory over Morecambe.

Mills set up two goals for Mohammed Maouche and Desire Segbe Azankpo as Oldham Athletic secured the three points in Dino Maamria’s first game in charge.

The full-back says that it was the perfect day as far as the side were concerned.

“It was an all-round good day, we scored three goals at home, so we're happy.” He said.

“We were disappointed to concede at home, but instead of crumbling like the past couple of games we managed to go get that third.

“You can't ask for much more at home.”

In recent games, Latics have thrown away two goal leads much to the frustration of everyone.

However, Latics managed to kill the game off this time and Mills says you could forgive a few people for thinking the worst.

“When they scored you could probably forgive most fans for thinking here, we go again.” He commented.

“We dug deep and played well, got control of the ball again and scored the third which is what we needed to do.”

Mills has been left out in previous fixtures, but Maamria brought him straight back in the starting XI for Saturday’s game against his former club.

However, he says Latics can’t rest on their laurels as they look forward to Carlisle United next week.

“It's been frustrating for me to not play, but I'm happy to just be back out there.

“We need to build on it now, three draws on the bounce before getting that win and now we've just got to try and continue a winning run and look forward to next week.”

The players only had one training session with the new Head Coach, but Latics managed to pull off the result against Morecambe.

Mills said he changed a couple of things, but he’s looking forward to seeing what the following week brings.

“It's been so far so good, we've only had one training session, he introduced himself and put a few ideas forward.

“He didn't want to change much because obviously you can't change much in one training session.

“He just told us to go out, express ourselves and keep playing our game.

“There were a few tweaks to try and tighten up defensively which we needed, and it came off.”
