Academy Play Out Goalless Encounter With Tranmere

21 January 2020

Oldham Athletic Under 18’s recorded a point in their last outing at the weekend, playing out a 0-0 draw at home to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday at Chapel Road.

Despite both sides creating a number of clear-cut chances, neither could break the deadlock meaning the young Latics players extended their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions.

Grabbing another point, Youth Team Manager, Danny Cadamarteri was also pleased to pick up a third clean sheet in four games; "I’m pleased to continue with another clean sheet to add to the others that we’ve picked up recently.

"We maybe didn’t create enough in the game which is something we’re usually really good at and we might have ridden our luck a little bit at times, but we’ve come out of it and got another clean sheet."

In a game evenly contested by both sides, Cadamarteri felt that on the balance of play a share of the spoils was a fair result.

"I think on the balance of play they were the better side in the first-half and had a few chances that they should have capitalised on and taken.

"In the second-half we were slightly better and had a couple of great chances that we didn't take, so the draw was probably a fair result."

One man that did stand out for Cadamarteri again was Jack Williams (pictured above), and he was full of praise for the young winger who may be familiar with some supporters after being named on the bench in the FA Cup last season before the start of his scholarship this campaign.

"One player I was really pleased with was Jack Williams. We’ve done a lot of work with Jack in relation to getting better out of possession and doing a bit more defensively.

"We know how good he is going forward on the ball and how much of a threat he is and he should now look at the other side of his game which meant he worked for the team as part of the defensive unit."

Looking towards the next game, Cadamarteri gave his thoughts on the upcoming clash at Shrewsbury Town.

"It’s another difficult game. From our point of view it’s about preparing and managing, it’s a long trip away so we’re prepared for that aspect of it and we’ll be hoping to tighten up on the aspects we’ve been a bit sloppy on, as well as creating more scoring chances as well."
