On this week's episode of 'A Trip Down Sheepfoot Lane', Roy Butterworth will be joined by another 'one of our own' and current Rangers defender George Edmundson.
The young centre back is one of the most recent products of the Latics' academy. Getting his opportunity properly in the first-team back in the 2017/18 season after loan spells in non-league, he showed great promise and netted his first senior goal before becoming a regular the year after.
During 2018/19, he made a real name for himself recording 54 appearances in all competitions for Latics and proudly wore the captains’ armband away at MK Dons. To add to this, he was named in the official EFL League Two Team of the Year.
George also won the Oldham Athletic Community Trust Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards to cap off a breakthrough campaign for his own personal development.
Overall, 'The Fridge' as he is now nicknamed in Scotland, made a total of 79 appearances and scored three goals for the club before joining SPFL giants Rangers. He’s received a warm welcome by the Glaswegians and has now started to impress and cement a place in Steven Gerrard's side.
Last season, he featured in the Europa League and scored his first goal for the Gers in a 2-1 win over Hibernian at Ibrox.
The videocast has already been recorded earlier in the week so questions do not need to be sent in.
We'd like to thank George for taking the time out of his busy pre-season schedule as he discusses his Latics memories.
This will be available to watch on the club's YouTube channel (OfficialOAFC) Saturday at 3pm.
