A Trip Down Sheepfoot Lane - Joe Royle, Mike Milligan & Frankie Bunn

10 June 2020

On this week's episode of 'A Trip Down Sheepfoot Lane', Roy Butterworth will be joined by club legends Joe Royle, Mike Milligan and Frankie Bunn.

The trio of club icons will be discussing their own memories from the 'pinch me years' whilst taking an in-depth look at the Littlewoods Cup Final in 1990 against Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest at Wembley.

That legendary cup run saw Latics beat four of the strongest clubs in the country at the time, which included the reigning champions of England, Arsenal and Division One leaders Aston Villa.

The main guest is the one and only Joe Royle, during a 12-year spell in charge of the club he led Latics to the top-flight after winning the Second Division in 1991 and in the first-ever Premier League season pulled off one of the most remarkable great escapes the nation has witnessed. In 1990, Royle led Oldham to the FA Cup semi-finals and took Manchester United to a replay whilst leading his side out at the old Wembley Stadium in the Littlewoods Cup Final. Iconic moments that are written in club history as a main highlight.

Mike Milligan will be joining his old gaffer, the former midfielder notched up 336 appearances for Latics after coming through the ranks at Boundary Park. In total, Milligan spent nine-years with the club and became a pivotal part of the Latics midfield, wearing the armband for the Littlewoods Cup Final. He still holds the record for the most Premier League appearances for Oldham Athletic.

To complete the line-up this week is Frankie Bunn. The year that the club made the final of the Littlewoods Cup, he famously found the back of the next six times in the third round tie against Scarborough, which is a record that stands to this current day. Overall, he made 88 appearances and scored 35 goals for Oldham during 1987 and 1990.

If you want to ask any of the guests something about this period, please email it to natalie.atkinson@oldhamathletic.co.uk and roy.butterworth@yahoo.co.uk. The deadline to submit your questions is this evening, Wednesday 10 June at 7pm.

This will be available to watch on the club's YouTube channel (OfficialOAFC) on Saturday at 3pm.
