The Seventh Episode of 'A Trip Down Sheepfoot Lane' Is Out Now!

20 June 2020

As part of the 125 year celebrations, the ‘A Trip Down Sheepfoot Lane’ videocast now takes a closer look at the cup run with a twist back in the 2012/13 season.

The trio of guests who will be remembered fondly from recent years, take a look back at another FA Cup run that had plenty of highs, especially when Latics beat Nottingham Forest away before overcoming Liverpool as well as holding Everton to a draw at Boundary Park.

Recorded in two parts, the former gaffer Paul Dickov is the main guest this week. He spent three years in charge at Boundary Park and masterminded one of the club's greatest ever FA Cup feats as his side beat Liverpool 3-2 in 2013. Dickov also took Oldham to Anfield the season before in the FA Cup when Robbie Simpson stunned the Premier League side with a thunderbolt, which was a sign of more things to come. The former manager brought a host of talent to the club during his tenure using his contacts to attract the likes of Shefki Kuqi, James Wesolowski and Jean-Yves Mvoto.

The FA Cup hero himself, Matt Smith, also talks to the club again about his time at Oldham. The six-foot six-inch striker made a name for himself in the 2013 cup run, netting a brace in the win over Liverpool whilst heading a last-minute equaliser in against Everton to create carnage in the home stands. The frontman even managed to notch a consolation goal in the replay at Goodison Park; before moving to Leeds United the following summer and admitted that short period of time in front of the TV cameras set his career alight in the Championship after working his way up through non-league whilst at university.

All-time fans favourite Jose Baxter, who is now playing the beautiful game over in America takes a trip down Sheepfoot Lane too. After arriving at Oldham in 2012, Baxter showed his talent and natural ability instantly, producing some impressive performances. During the FA Cup run, the midfielder scored in the first round away at Kidderminster Harriers and scored THAT free-kick against Nottingham Forest much to the delight of the away following. Baxter played in the middle of the park against Liverpool before getting a dream tie against his former club Everton. Overall, Jose made 84 appearances for Latics in two-spells and scored 21 goals.
