Oldham Athletic Academy will fly out to Portugal at the end of October after Covid-19 postponed their pre-season trip this summer.
Through the Erasmus+ programme, in conjunction with Ecorys, Paul Murray’s youngsters will head to Portugal for two weeks to prepare for the 2020/21 season.
Murray said: "We managed to gain funding through the Erasmus+ programme for a pre-season tour this season for the youth team. The academy previously used the Erasmus+ programme for pre-season in 2014/15 when they visited Holland.
"I was always keen to do something similar so applied through the funding agency Ecorys and we were successful. This is a really positive trip for the academy.
"We will visit Browns Sport and Leisure facility in Portugal, Vilamoura. It has a fantastic reputation and excellent facilities to match." He commented.
"It’s something to look forward to for everyone and it’s not cost the club a penny, so we are very grateful to the National Agency, Ecorys and the Erasmus+ programme for funding that.
"It will be a mixture of football and education with fixtures arranged against local teams in Portugal.
"We’ll do some sight-seeing as well, visit a professional club over there and it allows the players to bond, learn and experience a new environment."
He added: "It’s a project which the young lads will always remember and learn by so it's something to really look forward to."
The youth team will head out at the end of October and return in November.
