Discrimination Incident

26 August 2021

Oldham Athletic is extremely disappointed to report an incident from last weekend’s home league fixture.

The club and Greater Manchester Police have now been informed of the racist remarks made at the time and are working together to identify the sole male responsible for his inappropriate comments towards a player during the match.

We would like to thank a witness for already reporting the incident to Kick It Out and providing evidence through the proper channels and would urge others who may be able to help to come forward as investigations continue.

As a club we will continue to fully support the message on and off the pitch that football is for everyone and discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. We would also like to reiterate that the strongest possible action will be taken against the individual going forwards as this will undoubtedly tarnish the club and supporters who like the rest of the football family want to eradicate discrimination from the beautiful game.

The message is clear – prejudice and abuse – whether in the street, in the stadium or online has no place in society - and we will not accept it.

A reminder that if you see abuse or discrimination, report it via Kick It Out by visiting this link: www.kickitout.org/other-reporting-methods
