SIGNING: Experienced Adams Added

22 January 2021

Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Nicky Adams from Northampton Town on a permanent deal until June 2022.

Adams played a major part in the Cobblers promotion from Sky Bet League Two last campaign, producing 12 assists, the most in Keith Curle’s squad.

The Northampton captain has amassed over 600 career appearances, reaching the milestone back in November and has featured 16 times during the latest campaign.

Born in Bolton, he began his career at Bury FC where he netted 15 goals resulting in Leicester City swooping in for his signature. In 2009, he achieved his first promotion in his career as he helped get the Foxes back to the Sky Bet Championship.

After a few loan spells, he put pen-to-paper on a deal with Rochdale notching over 60 appearances for the club. Adams then went on to ply his trade at Crawley Town and Rotherham United before returning to Bury for a year.

In 2015, Chris Wilder brought the attack-minded player to Northampton and, in that season, the club won the League Two title with Adams catching the eye and being named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Adams, now 34, added another promotion to his CV when he returned to the Shakers for a third spell, he featured heavily in the starting XI making 17 assists as they finished runners-up in 2018/19.

On the second signing in January, Head Coach Harry Kewell said; "He’s a player I really admire and has been a target of mine for a while.

"He’ll add that experience to my team and comes here with back-to-back promotions from this league so knows what it takes to fight at the right end of the table.

"I’m really excited to see what he can do in an Oldham shirt and is a player who can play in a number of different positions, he's a great addition all-round."

Whilst, Nicky was delighted to be back up North; "I’m really glad to be here and it’s a really good opportunity to make my mark at a club I know a lot about after coming up against Oldham a number of times.

"I'm a passionate player who still has a lot to give. I've settled in well already and I'm raring to go after my first training session this afternoon."

Adams will wear the #23 shirt whilst at Oldham and is available for selection tomorrow.

His first interview with the club will be published later.

Welcome to Latics, Nicky!
