Wigan Friendly Update

12 July 2021

The pre-season fixture at home to Wigan Athletic this weekend (17th July - 3pm KO) will unfortunately now be played behind closed doors.

The decision has been made to play without supporters in attendance as the game takes place two days before the Government plans to lift their lockdown restrictions entirely.

With this in mind, Boundary Park’s capacity would be significantly reduced further under current regulations and with social distancing measures still in place. This is alongside investing in increased stewarding and other Covid-19 safety measures such as signage for one match for it to be removed completely the week after.

Both clubs are looking into providing a live stream of the match online for fans to be able to watch as an alternative, with details to be communicated later this week.

Oldham Athletic apologises for the late notice given and has made the decision reluctantly after taking all factors into account and the associated high costs with making Boundary Park Covid-19 compliant to the strict standards set for EFL clubs by the authorities.

It is still expected that the club can finally welcome supporters back to the ground the following weekend as normal for the Burnley pre-season friendly (24th July - 1pm KO), with ticket details to be confirmed in due course.
