Hart Joins Defensive Ranks

22 June 2021

Oldham Athletic are happy to announce the arrival of Sam Hart who has joined on a one-year deal with an option.

The 24-year-old returns to the North West after rejecting a new deal at Southend United, where he played 21 times in the second part of the 2020/21 Sky Bet League Two season.

Predominantly used on the left-side, Hart started his youth career at both Manchester United and Liverpool before being sold to Blackburn Rovers in 2017. A number of loan spells followed in the Football League where he gained vital experience at the likes of Rochdale, Southend and Shrewsbury before making the switch back to Roots Hall permanent in November 2020.

A defender by trade, he is described as a player who enjoys supporting attacks and poses a threat with his skill, speed and strength.

On his second recruit, Head Coach Keith Curle said; “Sam is someone who still has huge potential but is now at a point in his career where he has matured from his experiences which will make him become an important part of the team we’re building here.

“He is eager to learn and be successful in the way we want to play. He’s the typical type of wing-back where he’ll have an impact on a regular basis in games.

“He’ll open teams up with his speed and physicality and I’ve been an admirer of his qualities when he’s been on the opposing side in the past.”

An interview with Sam will be published later this week on iFollow Latics.

The move is subject to FA & EFL approval.

Welcome to Latics, Sam!
