Oldham Athletic will battle it out with three other teams again in the group stage of the 2021/22 Papa John’s Trophy.
Conducted on Sky Sports this afternoon, alongside 'Fixture Release Day' and after the Carabao Cup draw, Leeds United are the invited U21 team after they were put in Northern Group B alongside Latics.
Fellow League Two sides, Tranmere Rovers (who we will also face in the Carabao Cup) and Salford City complete the group, both being recent finalists in the different annual competitions. The Ammies going one step further to win the trophy at Wembley.
Group Stage match dates and venues are to be confirmed in due course, with the Premier League U21 side always playing away.
In addition, if there is a situation where two teams meet in the Group Stages for a second successive season, then the Club who was at home in 2020/21 will play away in 2021/22. All EFL Clubs will play two of their three matches at home in the Group Stages.
News regarding tickets and attendance for this encounter will be released on the club website in due course. It is expected the ties will be scheduled around Wednesday 1 September, Wednesday 6 October and Wednesday 10 November 2021, but will be communicated at a later date with kick-off times.
The competition format remains unchanged like the sponsor, Papa John’s.
