Latics Add Goalkeeper Hudson

2 December 2022

Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of Mathew Hudson on a deal until the end of the season.

Hudson, who was at Preston until the summer, joins up with the Latics squad ahead of the weekend's match at Solihull having recently spent time with National League North side Buxton.

Latics gaffer, David Unsworth, spoke highly of the ‘keeper, saying: “Magnus is our no. 1 and has done very well this season, but this is an opportunity to freshen things up and bring in some competition to help push him on.

"Jayson Leutwiler has currently got Covid so we've needed to act quickly and I'm very pleased that we've been able to get Matt on board.

"He made his debut for Preston when he was 17, he's played in the Championship and Steve Thompson, our Head of Recruitment, rates him highly.

"Sometimes players can drop down the leagues due to various circumstances but I believe we’ve got a goalkeeper who can be with us for a good period of time.

"I'd like to thank Jamie Vermiglio and Buxton for their help in allowing the deal to be completed so quickly."

He was released by Preston in the summer, and spent the first few months of the season with Buxton.
