Latics progressed to the Fourth Round of the FA Trophy after beating Peterborough Sports on penalties.

Neither side created many chances of note, Kitching was lively for Latics down the left-flank, but Peterborough defended his crosses well.

The away side had the opportunity to win the game as the game came to a close, Mamadu Sanó Sani went for goal from outside the box, with Leutwiler getting down to deny him.

Peterborough Sports took the first penalty of the penalty shootout, with Dan Lawlor scoring.

John Rooney missed his spotkick, but Leutwiler denied The Turbines on three occasions, to win the tie for Latics.

Chances were few and far between for both teams, Latics’ main attacking were the wings, but Peterborough Sports did well to stop most of the ball entering the box.

Leutwiler was called upon on a few occasions, he had to make a save from a Peterborough free-kick in the first-half.

David Unsworth made three changes in the second-half, Fondop, Gardner, and Couto came on in place of Reid, Maynard and Peck.

Following those substitutions, Hallam Hope limped off with an injury, leaving Latics with ten men on the pitch for the last ten minutes.

With the game level after 90 minutes, penalties decided the tie.

Both teams scored their first, but Rooney missed his penalty, giving Peterborough the advantage.

But they couldn’t make the most of it, and thanks to three saves by Leutwiler, Latics won the penalty shootout.
