Gardner Returns To Boundary Park

29 July 2022

Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce the return of Dan Gardner to Boundary Park on a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old midfielder, who played 72 times for Latics across two seasons from 2017, re-joins the club after spending recent seasons with Wigan and Doncaster.

Gardner is reunited again with John Sheridan after working together during his previous time at the club and will bring significant class and experience as the manager continues to construct his squad for the new campaign.

Sheridan said: “Everyone at the club is aware of Dan’s quality as a player and he will play a major part in what we are looking to achieve this season.

“Dan is a top professional, he is someone who genuinely leads by example and his qualities as an all-round midfielder who knows where the goal is have huge benefits for us.

“The fact that he has played the last two seasons in League One says everything about the type of player we have signed and I’m sure the fans will love seeing him back in an Oldham shirt again.”

Originally from Manchester, Gardner’s first professional club was Celtic, where he spent time in the youth set-up before continuing his development with Crewe, expericing EFL football for the first time.

After time with non-league Droylsden, he properly established himself during three seasons at Chesterfield scoring ten times, including some impressive strikes from range, in addition to loans at Tranmere and Bury.

It was in the summer of 2017 that Gardner first joined Latics, making a big impression at Boundary Park, only to sustain a serious injury.

He joined Wigan in 2020, featuring 40 times, before spending the last season with Doncaster.

Player sponsorships for the 2022/23 season are now available for £250+VAT with home and away shirt packages on offer. To sponsor Dan, email commercial@oldhamathletic.co.uk.

Welcome back to Latics, Dan!
