Supporter Safety

4 November 2022

With a sold-out away end at Altrincham and over 2,400 fans at Halifax, we have again seen the magnificent support on the road that makes our club so special.

The size and passion of our away following are valued enormously and are among the things we all cherish about Latics. Away days are all about the enjoyment of supporters and we want these occasions to become even more special as we move forward.

Unfortunately, over the last week, there have been a handful of incidents which have seen the encroachment of fans onto the pitch and a number of flares set off.

Incidents such as these are criminal offences, and as well as spoiling the enjoyment of matches for fellow supporters, they also carry repercussions for the club, including potential financial penalties.

Every time an incident like this takes place, the club must report to the relevant authorities and if the occurrences persist, we risk further penalties.

It is therefore important that all supporters are reminded that encroachment onto the pitch and the setting off of flares and smoke bombs at games are strictly prohibited. Please do not take any of these items into a football stadium.

We don’t want the strength of the passion and support from the stands to be lost in any way, but we all have a duty to support our club in the correct manner and also take into consideration our fellow fans.

As we look ahead to the weekend’s trip to Wrexham, we want our support to be showcased on live television in the best possible light. Please be loud, be proud, and let’s help the lads into the next round of the FA Cup!
