Clarke Returns To Latics

11 November 2022

Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Peter Clarke from Walsall.

The 40-year-old joins Latics on a loan until 1st January 2023.

The gaffer was ecstatic to have someone with so much quality and experience in a key position.

“Peter’s a player I know very well, I played alongside him many years ago.

“He’s had an impeccable career, and I know how well loved he was during his last spell here.

"He's here to play, not to coach or cheerlead, and he's a top addition."

A player who needs no introduction to Latics fans, Peter’s just a few appearances away from the 900 game mark.

Clarke joined Latics in 2016, having played for a host of clubs including Huddersfield and Southend.

The partnership between him and Connor Ripley was key to Latics keeping 18 clean sheets in the 2016/17 season, helping Ripley equal Les Pogliacomi’s record from the 2006/07 season.

He left Latics after three seasons at Boundary Park, joining Fleetwood and then Tranmere, appearing in every minute of every league game over two consecutive seasons for the Super White Army.

After turning down a contract extension with Tranmere, he joined Michael Flynn’s Walsall in the summer.

On returning to the club, Clarke said: "It feels really good to be back, it's been a little while since I've been here but I've got really fond memories of the club.

"The support for me from the fans has always been first class, they get behind us home and away and I'm really looking forward to playing at Boundary Park once again."

Peter will wear the number 42 shirt.

Welcome back, Peter!
