Latics 0-2 Barnet

12 November 2022

Two second half goals ensured Barnet left Boundary Park with all three points.

Home debutant Mark Kitching looked dangerous down the left-flank for Latics in the first-half, his runs and crosses troubled the Barnet defence.

After a goalless first half, Barnet asserted their dominance in the second half. A wonderful solo run from Idris Kanu gave the visitors the lead before Harry Pritchard doubled their advantage with a few minutes to spare.

Latics couldn't find a consolation goal and it was the visitors who left with the points.

The hosts started the game brightly, Timmy Abraham managing to shrug a few defenders off to get a shot on goal but it was comfortably saved by Laurie Walker.

The bright start continued when John Rooney played a delightful ball down the left flank to Mark Kitching, his cross found Hallam Hope but he couldn't make a clean connection with the ball.

Barnet then grew into the game, there were no clear cut chances but Nicke Kabamba caused the Latics defence problems. His goal bound shot deflected off Peter Clarke and out for a corner.

The teams went in level at the break.

The second half commenced and it was Barnet who took the game to Latics, but the first real chance fell to the hosts.

A corner from the right hand side found fans favourite Peter Clarke in the area, but his backheel effort went just wide of the post.

But then in the 58th minute, winger Idris Kanu received the ball and managed to dribble his way past the Latics defence, before he slotted home past Norman to give Barnet the lead.

Latics responded well to the set back, Ben Tollitt with a menacing run from his own half and he forced a low save from Laurie Walker.

Just after, Tollitt again caused problems, producing a strike that was inches from finding the top corner.

The game then fizzled out and the visitors managed to grab a second. A cross came into the box and at the back post Harry Pritchard went unnoticed and finished calmly ensuring the visitors went back home with the three points.
