Chapman Signs On Loan

17 November 2022

Ellis Chapman has completed a loan move to Oldham Athletic from Cheltenham Town until 17 December.

The 21-year-old midfielder has spent the last two years at Whaddon Road, featuring in their promotion campaign from League Two having progressed through the academy at Leicester City.

The addition of Chapman strengthens the Latics midfield ahead of the weekend trip to Maidstone.

Manager David Unsworth said: “We’ve been watching Ellis for a while now, he’s a player with great pedigree and knows how to get promoted.

“We thought we might have got Ellis in last week but we couldn’t get the deal done in time. He’s here now and we’re really looking forward to working with him.

“He can play wide or inside, he’s got a great left foot, he knows how to get goals and assists, and we’re delighted to get another quality player over the line.

“We’re at the stage now where I want to get a settled team and a settled way of playing which suits the players we’ve got.”

It was at the age of 16 that Chapman made his debut in senior football, representing his hometown club of Lincoln after starting out with their youth team.

As a teenager, Chapman made 31 appearances at Sincil Bank having returned to the club following a move to Leicester where he continued his development.

In total, Chapman spent four seasons at Leicester, also making 14 appearances for Chesterfield in 2019, before a move to Cheltenham.

The midfielder featured 66 times at Whaddon Road, including 21 starts during their promotion campaign as they secured the League Two title in 2021.

Welcome to Latics, Ellis!
