Latics Sign Striker Reid

22 November 2022

Oldham Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of striker Alex Reid.

Reid, who joins us following his release by Stockport, has signed a contract until the summer of 2025.

A proven goalscorer and National League winner at Edgeley Park last season, the 27-year-old has scored eight goals on loan at Solihull so far this campaign and brings genuine pedigree to the forward line.

“Alex is a real quality signing for us and plays in a position we’ve been looking to strengthen in.

“He can play in multiple positions across the forward line, he’s a real goalscorer and is at a great age where he can really kick on and develop with us.

“He’s scored plenty of goals and achieved success at this level before which is vital. We know that we’re getting a proven striker and I’m really looking forward to working with him."

The 27-year-old started out in the youth setups of Aston Villa and Walsall, before spending time with Rushall Olympic, which earned him a move to Fleetwood Town.

Reid didn’t feature for the Cod Army, but did spend time on loan with Wrexham and Solihull, scoring seven goals in the process.

Following a short spell with Stevenage in League Two, he featured for AFC Fylde, Ebbsfleet and Dagenham, netting ten goals.

Alex signed for Stockport in the summer of 2020, and hit the 20-goal mark for The Hatters, as they finished 3rd in the National League.

He rejoined Solihull for a second time this season, his goals so far including a wonderful effort from outside the box against Scunthorpe.

Reid said: “I’m buzzing to be here, the move has been a little while in the making but as soon as I realised there was interest from such a big club I wanted to get it sorted.

“The conversations with the gaffer have been really positive, every time I’ve spoken to him it has all been geared around wanting me to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

Alex will wear the number 25 shirt and a full video interview will follow.

The move is subject to the relevant National League and FA clearance.

Welcome to Latics, Alex!
