We are pleased to announce our second signing of the day with the addition of David Okagbue on loan from Stoke City.
The Irish-born central defender joins Latics on a youth loan until 28 September having spent the last three years with the Championship side.
“David is another good, young talent who has all the qualities required of an up-and-coming central defender.
“He’s learnt his trade at a very good club in Stoke, where he’s rated extremely highly, and provides further strength in a key area for us.
“David is athletic, he reads the game well, and is more than capable of settling in like recent additions such as Mitchell (Roberts).”
David was a regular in Stoke’s U18 side, being named captain on a number of occasions, and was also given a taste of U23s football towards the back end of the campaign.
Aged just 17, he nailed down a place in their Premier League 2 side and took part in the youth play-offs, losing to Wolves U23s in the final.
Okagbue is also a Republic of Ireland U19 international, and has played with young Latic Harry Vaughan during his time on international duty.
The then 18-year-old spent time out on loan at Chester last season, before returning to Stoke.
He’s continued to impress for The Potters, and was on the bench for their EFL Cup tie against Morecambe in August.
David will wear squad number 24, and a video interview will follow shortly.
You can sponsor David with home and away packages on offer. For more details, email email@example.com.
Welcome to Latics, David!
