Wrexham 5-1 Latics

1 April 2023

League leaders Wrexham continued their unbeaten home record with a 5-1 win over Latics.

Wrexham started with attacking intent, and after a few saves and near misses, went ahead when Eoghan O'Connell smashed the ball over the line from a few yards out.

Ten minutes later, Wrexham doubled their lead when Paul Mullin was found free in the box from a set piece, and headed home.

Latics gave themselves a lifeline just before the break, John Rooney’s beautiful free-kick found Liam Hogan inside the area, giving Ben Foster no chance.

Mike Fondop was thrown into the mix after the break, partnering Nuttall up top.

Elliot Lee, son of former Latic Rob, pulled the trigger from outside the box, beating Hudson by finding the far corner.

It went from bad to worse for Athletic, Mullin was picked out at the far post, and was given time to nod the ball past Hudson, his second, and Wrexham’s fourth of the game.

Couto and Tollitt came on in place of Chapman and Nuttall as the game came to a close.

Substitute Fondop was sent off just before the fourth official raised his board, for an apparent elbow on O’Connell.

Mullin got his hat-trick in stoppage time with a strike from outside the box.

Oldham: Hudson, Hogan, Sheron, Rooney, Sambou (Fondop 45), Kitching, Sutton, Chapman (Couto 74), P. Clarke, Yarney, Nuttall (Tollitt 78).

Attendance: 9,910 (805)
